Telangana land dispute: Harish Rao demands minister's resignation
T Harish Rao, a former minister and leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS), has criticized the Congress-led Telangana government over the inclusion of numerous properties in the Section 22A prohibited lands list. Rao claims the move has caused widespread anxiety and confusion for hundreds of thousands of property owners by prohibiting the sale and registration of lands, including entire colonies, without proper verification.
During a protest in Malkajgiri, Rao demanded the resignation of Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. He alleged that the government is using Section 22A to facilitate corruption, claiming reports suggest a ‘30 per cent charge’ may be required to remove properties from the list. He noted that many of these lands were regularized following the repeal of the Urban Land Ceiling (ULC) Act in 2008.
Rao highlighted that significant areas in the Rangareddy and Medchal districts, as well as HMDA lands, have been affected. He called for the government to release a white paper on all lands added to the prohibited list since December 7, 2023, to ensure transparency and resolve the uncertainty facing citizens.
