Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced that a special session of the state Assembly and Legislative Council will be convened in the first week of August to pass a resolution urging the Union government to amend the Constitution and reduce the minimum age for contesting Lok Sabha and Assembly elections from 25 to 21 years. He also unveiled a new slogan, “Jai Jawan – Jai Kisan – Jai Yuva,” to highlight youth leadership.

Reddy said the proposal should be considered together with pending reforms on delimitation, an increase in parliamentary seats and a women’s reservation bill. He plans to meet opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi and submit the proposal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The CM cited examples such as Germany, the United Kingdom and Singapore, where young people hold high office, and urged the Centre to revoke cases against students involved in recent NEET‑paper‑leak protests and to provide compensation to families of those who died by suicide.
