The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) conducted a statewide enforcement drive on August 14, 2026, raiding 43 medical shops for violations regarding the sale of prescription weight-loss drugs. The inspections focused on medicines containing Tirzepatide, such as Mounjaro, and Semaglutide, including Ozempic, Wegovy, and Rybelsus, as well as their generic versions.

Officials identified several regulatory breaches, including the sale of weight-loss medications without specialist prescriptions, dispensing drugs without issuing bills, and failing to maintain mandatory sales, purchase, and prescription drug registers. Additionally, some establishments were found dispensing medicine without a registered pharmacist present. The DCA also inspected multi-dose vials and pre-filled pens to identify potential counterfeit or spurious batches.

As a result of these findings, the DCA has issued show-cause notices to all 43 medical shops. The department stated that further regulatory action will be taken under the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
