Telangana DGP C.V. Anand reviews police welfare schemes over misuse concerns

Telangana Director General of Police C. V. Anand chaired a review of the Police Welfare Society and the Arogya Bhadratha health scheme at the DGP office in Hyderabad on July 20, 2026. The meeting included Deputy Superintendent of Police and India cricketer Mohammed Siraj, who recently received a DSP appointment, as well as senior police officials. The DGP highlighted the welfare of police personnel and their families, citing that 33,126 police members and relatives used the health scheme in 2025 and 12,392 beneficiaries accessed it through June 2026, with expenditures of Rs 181.74 crore in 2025 and Rs 73.61 crore to date.

Anand warned against any misuse of the welfare programmes, emphasizing ethical standards and the need to prevent a "business racket" in these schemes. He directed the creation of a digital platform for beneficiary tracking, expansion of low‑interest loans, and increased funding for scholarships, education assistance, and insurance for families of officers killed in the line of duty. The review also covered merit scholarships for police children and financial aid for students preparing for competitive exams such as JEE and NEET.
