Telangana DGP visits former Maoist stronghold Karreguttalu

Telangana Director General of Police CV Anand led a multi-departmental government visit to Karreguttalu, a dense forest area on the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border, marking the first such visit in 50 years. Previously a Maoist stronghold, the region is now seeing increased government presence and infrastructure development, including ongoing road construction.

Under ‘Operation Kagar’, coordinated efforts by the Telangana Police, Chhattisgarh Police, CRPF, and elite units like the Greyhounds and CoBRA have significantly weakened Maoist influence. According to DGP Anand, nearly 700 Maoists have surrendered, over 1,000 weapons have been handed over, and several top leaders have been neutralized. The state is currently implementing rehabilitation measures for surrendered individuals, including land allotment and financial assistance.

As Maoist activity declines, the state police are shifting focus toward new challenges, specifically the growing drug menace. DGP Anand stated that the Narcotics Bureau, Traffic wing, and Crime Investigation Department are working together to strengthen enforcement against narcotics-related offenses.
