Telangana faces judicial scrutiny over land laws and legal errors

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy has called for a judicial inquiry into the implementation of Section 22A of the Registration Act in Telangana. The provision allows the state to prohibit the registration and sale of specific land parcels, including government, endowment, and Waqf lands. Opposition leaders, including T Harish Rao, have criticized the state government for adding large numbers of properties and entire colonies to the prohibited list, causing widespread anxiety among property owners.

Separately, the Telangana High Court has reprimanded the state government for incorrectly citing Article 162 of the Constitution in an official affidavit regarding the Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes. The court noted that such errors in official documents cannot be dismissed as mere clerical mistakes.

The High Court also raised concerns regarding the state's management of pending dues for farmers, retired employees, and government staff. The bench has directed the state to provide details on 19 pending contempt matters and requested the Principal Secretary of Finance to disclose the state's total outstanding debt and whether loans were raised to fund social welfare schemes.
