Telangana farmer insurance scheme faces uncertainty after missed premium deadline

The Telangana Farmer Group Life Insurance Scheme faces uncertainty following reports that the state government missed the August 14 deadline to pay the annual premium for the 2026–27 crop year. The required payment is estimated at approximately ₹1,400 crore.

Originally introduced in 2018, the scheme provides ₹5 lakh in financial assistance to the families of eligible farmers in the event of their untimely death. The program is implemented in collaboration with the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) and currently covers approximately 42.16 lakh farmers across the state. The delay in premium payment has caused concern among farming families who rely on the coverage as a financial safety net.
