Telangana food safety officials conduct statewide inspections of sweet shops

The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) conducted a statewide inspection drive on October 23, targeting sweet manufacturing units and retail outlets across multiple districts. The crackdown aimed to address hygiene lapses and suspected food adulteration.

Inspectors identified several sanitation violations, including damaged flooring, clogged drains, accumulated food waste, and greasy exhaust systems. In many establishments, food handlers were observed working without protective gear such as hairnets and gloves. Additionally, officials noted improper storage practices, such as keeping food items directly on the floor or alongside non-food articles, and a lack of required pest-control and health documentation.

During the drive, TG SAFE collected 38 food samples for suspected adulteration; however, laboratory results have not yet been released. As a result of the findings, the authority plans to issue improvement notices to 20 establishments and a show-cause notice to one establishment, with further penalties pending.
