Telangana Gig Workers Strike Disrupts Ride‑Hailing and Delivery Services

On July 22 2026, the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) and the Telangana App‑Based Drivers Forum (TADF) called a statewide flash strike involving app‑based cab, auto, goods‑transport and delivery workers. The protest demands an immediate increase in base fares, implementation of the Gig and Platform Workers Act and its welfare board, and enforcement of the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines of 2020 and 2025.

More than 200,000 gig and platform workers are expected to go offline, affecting ride‑hailing services such as Ola and Uber and food, grocery and parcel delivery firms including Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto and Porter. Commuters are likely to face longer waiting times, reduced vehicle availability and delayed deliveries, especially during peak hours. Officials advised travellers to airports and railway stations to make alternate arrangements. The unions warned that failure to meet their demands could trigger an indefinite statewide strike after August 8.
