Telangana gig workers warn of indefinite strike, state summons platform firms

App‑based cab, auto and delivery workers across Telangana have issued a final warning that they will begin an indefinite strike on August 8 if their demands are not met. The unions, representing several lakh gig and platform workers, say earnings have fallen due to fare policies and algorithmic controls. Their demands include a minimum base fare, fair per‑kilometre and per‑minute rates, immediate implementation of the Gig and Platform Workers Rules, creation of a welfare board, enforcement of the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines and removal of the 10‑minute delivery option.

In response, the Telangana Labour Department convened an emergency conciliation meeting with major platform companies such as Ola, Uber, Rapido, Porter, Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto and Blinkit. The meeting aims to negotiate the workers’ demands and avoid disruption to transport and delivery services across the state. A flash strike on July 22 saw about 3.9 lakh workers participate, underscoring the scale of the dispute.
