Telangana government to provide free MRI services in state hospitals
The Telangana government has announced plans to introduce Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) services in government hospitals through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The initiative aims to improve access to advanced diagnostic facilities across the state.
Mahbubnagar Government General Hospital will serve as the pilot site for the program. Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha has directed officials to develop an action plan to extend these services to all Government General Hospitals within two years. Under this arrangement, MRI scans will remain free of cost for patients referred by government doctors.
Officials suggest the PPP model could reduce government expenditure by approximately 20% compared to current systems. The model is also expected to resolve issues regarding equipment procurement, maintenance, and breakdowns to ensure uninterrupted service. Currently, MRI facilities are limited to specific institutions in Hyderabad, Warangal, Adilabad, and Bhupalpally, leaving several district headquarters without access.
