Telangana High Court orders HYDRAA chief's removal and police torture probe

Justice Anil Kumar Jukanti of the Telangana High Court held HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath guilty of civil contempt for wilfully disobeying a June 10, 2026 court order that barred HYDRAA from entering Shanta Sriram Constructions’ 40‑acre land at Lothukunta. The judgment directed the state Chief Secretary to relieve Ranganath from his post and appoint a suitable replacement.

Justice T Madhavi Devi ordered the Hyderabad Police Commissioner to investigate allegations of illegal detention and custodial torture by officers of Malakpet Police Station. The court instructed a review of CCTV footage from July 17‑18, the petitioner’s medical reports and photographs, and required departmental action against any officers found responsible.
