Telangana High Court reserves order on IAS Amrapali Kata’s cadre plea

The Telangana High Court has reserved its order regarding a plea by IAS officer Amrapali Kata to lift a stay on a Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) ruling. The CAT had previously ruled in Kata’s favor in June 2025, directing her allocation to the Telangana cadre following the bifurcation of the erstwhile united state. However, the Union Government challenged this decision, leading the High Court to stay the implementation of the tribunal's order in December 2025.

During the hearing, Kata’s counsel argued that errors in the original cadre allocation process caused injustice. The defense contended that the classification of certain officers as outsiders reduced the number of general-category insider posts available to Telangana, effectively allotting a post to Andhra Pradesh at Telangana’s expense. The Union Government, represented by Additional Solicitor General B. Narasimha Sharma, opposed the plea, arguing that the 2014 allocation process was not the direct subject of the current challenge.

A bench consisting of Justices Moushumi Bhattacharya and Renuka Yara indicated that a decision would be announced within two weeks, following the Dasara vacation.
