Telangana High Court rules on land resettlement rights

The Telangana High Court has ruled that landowners whose property was acquired through negotiated settlements for the Komuravelli Mallannasagar Reservoir Project cannot be denied rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) benefits. Justice Vakiti Ramakrishna Reddy set aside the state's claim that accepting compensation and signing sale deeds waived further entitlements, noting that R&R benefits are a separate statutory entitlement from land value compensation.

Simultaneously, the BJP has demanded a judicial inquiry into Section 22A land listings on the Bhu-Bharathi portal. The party alleges that thousands of hectares of private and agricultural land have been placed in a prohibited category, preventing owners from selling property or securing loans. BJP leaders claim these listings are being used to benefit specific interests and have called for a High Court judge to investigate the matter.
