Telangana intensifies anti-drug crackdown and receives national recognition
The Telangana Prohibition and Excise Department has announced a major crackdown on illegal drugs and non-duty-paid liquor (NDPL) within the Core Urban Region (CURE). This administrative area encompasses the Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Malkajgiri commissionerates. Following a three-month crime review, Commissioner C. Harikiran directed officials to intensify enforcement against narcotics and excise-related offenses, while also monitoring excise fee compliance among liquor retailers.
Separately, Telangana’s anti-narcotics initiatives have received national recognition. The state’s Narcotics Bureau and Eagle Force scored over 80% in a performance assessment conducted by the Union Government across seven key parameters, including intelligence operations, prosecution, and harm reduction. Sandeep Sandilya, Director of the Telangana Eagle Force, accepted the award on behalf of the Telangana Police from Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a national conference in New Delhi.
