Telangana irrigation officials release water from Sriramsagar Project
Irrigation officials in Telangana have begun releasing water from the Sriramsagar Project to meet agricultural and drinking water requirements. Approximately 10,000 cusecs of water have been released into several main canals, including the Kakatiya, Saraswati, and Laxmi canals. While the project currently holds 44.713 TMC of water, officials noted a lack of new inflows, leading to the planned distribution to districts such as Nizamabad, Nirmal, Adilabad, Kamareddy, Jagtial, and Karimnagar.
The region's water infrastructure includes the Mid Manair Dam, a major irrigation project on the Manair River with a gross storage capacity of 25.873 TMC. Originally conceived as a balancing reservoir for the Sriram Sagar Project (SRSP) Stage-II, it is now integrated into the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) network.
Additionally, the Saraswati Canal serves as a critical component of the SRSP irrigation network in northern Telangana. Technical records distinguish between the original Stage I canal, approximately 47 km in length, and the Stage II extension associated with the Kaddam Canal system.
