Telangana Legislative Council MLC Vacancies Prompt Party Lobbying

Two seats in the Telangana Legislative Council that are filled under the Governor's quota will become vacant on July 28, triggering a race among senior Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders. Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has begun internal consultations. Names under serious consideration include senior TDP leader Varla Ramaiah, a potential Rayalaseema‑region candidate, and former MLAs such as Vangaveeti Radhakrishna, Devineni Uma, SVSN Varma and Kommalapati Sridhar.

Within the ruling Congress party, lobbying is also intensifying for upcoming Graduate MLC seats whose terms expire in 2026‑2027. Senior leaders such as Surabhi Vani Devi and Ch. Naveen "Teenmar" Mallanna are expected to seek re‑election, while the party is eyeing new candidates, including a retired Indian Revenue Service officer from Mahbubnagar. The BJP and the regional BRS are preparing their own slates, hoping strong performances will boost prospects ahead of the next Assembly elections.
