Telangana man dies by suicide alleging police torture

A man identified as Veeresh has died after consuming poison in the Jogulamba Gadwal district of Telangana. Before his death, Veeresh recorded a video alleging that a sub-inspector and a constable physically assaulted and tortured him while he was being held at a police station.

Veeresh had been booked by police for allegedly damaging a neighbor’s vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. In his video, he claimed that despite apologizing and offering to pay for the repairs, the officers continued to beat him and held him for a day.

Local police have denied all allegations of assault or torture. Officials stated that Veeresh was called in for an inquiry following a complaint from the vehicle owner and noted that CCTV footage from the station is available. Police also claimed that Veeresh had requested the cancellation of the FIR. An investigation into the death and the allegations is currently underway.
