Telangana officials face criticism after separating child from foster parents
Authorities in Telangana have separated a young boy from the couple who had been raising him for three years, citing a lack of legal adoption documentation. The child, who was orphaned shortly after birth, had been cared for by the couple since he was five days old.
The separation occurred following a complaint from an unidentified individual alleging the child was being raised illegally. The boy was subsequently placed in the care of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and has been held in a government care center for three months.
Although the High Court ordered the child to be returned to the couple on October 16, officials have reportedly delayed the implementation of the verdict. A video of the child crying and pleading with his foster mother at the care center has since gone viral on social media.
District Collector P. Satya Prasad stated that the delay is due to administrative procedures and required permissions from the CWC. He assured that the boy would be handed over to the foster parents once the necessary formalities are completed.
