Telangana phone‑tapping probe set to file supplementary chargesheet naming top politicians

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Telangana phone‑tapping case is preparing a supplementary chargesheet that is expected to be filed in the Nampally court by the end of August. The investigation, launched in March 2024 after the Congress party returned to power, alleges that the Special Intelligence Bureau systematically intercepted the phones of politicians, bureaucrats, journalists, judges and other officials during the previous BRS administration.

Six individuals have already been named as accused, including former SIB chief Prabhakar Rao Thatiparthi, former DSP Dugyala Praneeth Rao, suspended Additional SPs Nayini Bhujanga Rao and Mekala Thirupathanna, former DCP Potlapally Radhakishan Rao, and media channel owner Aruvela Shravan Kumar Rao. The SIT has recorded statements from more than 600 witnesses, including senior politicians such as Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, former chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao, and is expected to name three additional prominent leaders in the upcoming chargesheet. Four police officials have been arrested, while some accused initially fled abroad before surrendering.
