Telangana Police Launch AI-Powered 112 Emergency Response System

On 5 August, the Telangana Police inaugurated the Telangana Emergency Response Assistance System (TG‑ERSS), an AI‑enabled platform that routes all emergency calls to a single national number, 112. The system, unveiled by Police Director‑General C.V. Anand at the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre in Hyderabad, integrates police, fire‑fighting, ambulance, women‑safety, child‑protection and disaster‑response services.

Key AI features include intelligent filtering of duplicate and non‑emergency calls, severity‑based prioritisation, smart call routing, speech‑to‑text transcription, precise location tracking via Google Maps, a real‑time operational dashboard and integration with drones and other emerging response tools. Early performance data show the average time for call‑takers fell from 100 seconds to 69 seconds, dispatcher handling time dropped from 90 seconds to 64 seconds, and total call‑center processing time was reduced by about 30 % (from 190 seconds to 133 seconds). Officials highlighted that every saved second can be critical for saving lives, especially as urban response times average around six minutes.
