Telangana police pledge drug‑free state by 2029 and push AI‑driven crime fighting

Telangana Director General of Police C. V. Anand announced that the state will be declared drug‑free by December 2029, saying drug traffickers will be treated as more dangerous than extremists and terrorists. He directed intensified operations against cannabis cultivation, transport and illegal trade, especially in the border districts of Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam, and ordered faster filing of charge sheets, higher conviction rates and uploading of digital evidence to the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System.

Anand also urged police to adopt modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, to improve investigations, curb cybercrime, narcotics and road‑safety offences, and to run awareness programmes in schools. The plan includes community policing, better traffic enforcement and the use of dog squads and surveillance at transport hubs.
