Telangana records 40,000 daily traffic violations

Telangana is recording an average of 40,000 traffic challans every day, with approximately 3.77 crore violations documented over the last 32 months. Despite strict enforcement by police in Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda, authorities report that motorist behavior remains largely unchanged.

Common violations include overspeeding, riding without helmets, driving on the wrong side of the road, jumping traffic signals, and failing to use seat belts. While the use of CCTV cameras and artificial intelligence-based surveillance has increased the efficiency of identifying violators, the high volume of penalties has not led to significant improvements in road safety.

Furthermore, hundreds of crores of rupees in fines remain unpaid, as many motorists fail to settle their pending dues. In response, traffic police have intensified efforts to recover outstanding amounts through special inspections and enforcement measures. Experts and officials emphasize that lasting change requires a shift in public attitude and sustained education rather than relying solely on financial penalties.
