Telangana student deaths underscore exam pressure and alleged teacher humiliation

In Warangal, 19‑year‑old P Krishnaveni, a NEET 2026 aspirant, died on July 29 after ingesting a weedicide. She had been distressed by her score of 407/720 despite it being well above the SC cut‑off, fearing she would not secure a medical college seat. She was hospitalized at NIMS Warangal for two days before passing away.

In the neighboring Gadwal district, an 18‑year‑old intermediate student from a government junior college committed suicide on July 29, allegedly after a female lecturer publicly insulted him over exam marks. Police recorded a case of abetment of suicide against the lecturer. The student had placed second in the district with 434 marks, while a peer scored 435.

Both incidents highlight rising mental‑health concerns among students in Telangana amid intense academic competition and alleged humiliation by educators.
