Telangana targets 20.33 lakh households for rooftop solar

The Telangana government and the Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) are aggressively promoting rooftop solar installations to reduce household electricity costs and advance clean energy usage. Under the Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) model implemented by the Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation Limited (TGREDCO), the state aims to equip 20.33 lakh households with a combined capacity of 4,066 MW.

To support this transition, domestic consumers can utilize the Central Government’s PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. This scheme provides financial assistance of up to Rs 78,000 for a 3 kWp rooftop solar system, with subsidies structured at Rs 30,000 per kW for the first 2 kWp and Rs 18,000 per kW for the third kWp. To qualify, installations must meet specific technical standards and the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR), which mandates the use of solar modules manufactured with domestic cells.

For rural solarisation, the government has sanctioned Rs 943.47 crore to fund rooftop systems and agricultural pump sets. This includes Rs 306.66 crore for 40,349 domestic rooftop systems and Rs 636.81 crore for solarising 16,805 agricultural pump sets. Financial assistance is also available for Group Housing Societies and Resident Welfare Associations to power common facilities, such as electric vehicle charging stations.
