Telangana to appoint transgender members to nine municipal corporations

Minister for Legislative Affairs D Sridhar Babu informed the Telangana Legislative Assembly that transgender persons will be appointed as co-opted members in nine municipal corporations across the state. These corporations are located outside the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits. One transgender person will be nominated to each corporation.

To implement this change, a Bill has been introduced to amend the Telangana Municipalities Act, 2019. The initiative aims to increase the participation of transgender individuals in public life and address social discrimination and marginalization.

Separately, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy stated that the state’s new education policy is designed to serve multiple generations, including Gen Z, Gen Alpha, and Gen Beta. Reddy emphasized that a robust education system is essential for achieving the state’s “Rising 2047” objectives and reaching a USD 1 trillion economy by 2034.
