Telangana to hold Varuna Yagam at Nagarjuna Sagar for rainfall
The Telangana state government is conducting a Maha Varuna Yagam at the Vijay Vihar premises in Nagarjuna Sagar to pray for adequate rainfall and healthy river flows. The ritual, organized under the supervision of the Yadagirigutta Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Devasthanam, aims to mitigate the effects of El Nino and prevent future water scarcity.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is scheduled to participate in the Maha Purnahuti ceremony. The rituals involve 108 Vedic scholars and priests performing ceremonies at 11 yaga gundams. The event comes amid concerns regarding water levels in the Krishna and Godavari river systems. Currently, the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir holds approximately 145.65 tmcft, which is less than half of its capacity compared to the previous year.
