Telangana to launch remote learner's licence testing
The Telangana Transport Department is set to launch an AI-enabled facility allowing applicants to take learner’s licence (LLR) tests from home using a computer or laptop. The initiative, expected to pilot within a week, utilizes the central government’s Sarathi portal and was developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC).
To prevent malpractice and impersonation, the system employs webcam-based facial recognition and liveness detection. Candidates must perform specific actions, such as smiling and blinking five times, to ensure they are physically present and not using recorded videos or photos. The testing environment uses the Safe Exam Browser (SEB) to block web searches and other applications during the exam. If facial verification fails due to technical issues, applicants retain the option to complete their test at a Regional Transport Office (RTO).
