Telangana pushes ahead with Special Intensive Revision of voter rolls

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana has almost finished distributing enumeration forms, with 99% of forms handed out across the state. The Chief Electoral Officer said collection will run until July 24, after which a draft electoral roll is slated for publication on July 30.

In Hyderabad, only 9% of the distributed forms have been completed and returned, far behind other districts. officials attribute the slowdown to house‑number mismatches and have promised fresh instructions to Booth Level Officers to accelerate the process.

The Election Commission warned that registering to vote in multiple constituencies is a criminal offence, punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine, using its Demographically Similar Entries (DSE) software to detect duplicate entries.

Separately, data from the 2002 SIR for about 15,000 voters in the Fatehnagar‑Balanagar area is missing, prompting a boycott by residents. Political leaders and the Chief Electoral Officer have been asked to trace the missing records to prevent genuine voters from being disenfranchised.
