Telcel users in Mexico report massive recharge and signal outage

Thousands of Telcel users in Mexico reported a widespread failure in the company's recharge system on Monday, August 17. The technical issue has prevented prepaid customers from activating data packages, purchasing credit, or accessing mobile services.

According to data from Downdetector, the surge in reports began around 9:00 AM. The reported issues include signal instability (46%), mobile internet connectivity failures (30%), and billing or recharge errors (13%). Users noted that the disruption affects multiple channels, including the official Telcel portal, third-party payment applications like Mercado Pago, and physical retail locations.

Some customers reported that while their banks successfully processed payments, the corresponding airtime or data packages were not credited to their accounts. As of the latest reports, parent company América Móvil has not released an official statement explaining the cause of the outage or providing an estimated time for service restoration.
