TELE2 Haber ceases broadcasting due to high RTÜK licensing fees

TELE2 Haber, an internet-based news outlet established by former employees of TELE1, has announced the termination of its broadcasting activities. The decision follows the imposition of high licensing fees by the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK).

Programmer Murat Taylan stated that RTÜK required two separate licenses for internet television and on-demand internet services. Under the 2026 tariff, the total cost for these licenses amounts to approximately 2,324,612 TL. Taylan explained that the outlet is unable to meet these costs due to current economic conditions, which have also necessitated internal downsizing.

TELE2 Haber was founded in November 2025 by journalists who resigned from TELE1 following the appointment of a trustee to that channel in October 2025. The outlet had attempted to continue its journalistic work via the internet to bypass the challenges faced by traditional television broadcasting.
