Telecommunications sector sees major shifts in Argentina and Spain

The telecommunications sector is undergoing significant shifts in Argentina and Spain. In Argentina, Telecentro has agreed to acquire iPlan for approximately USD 260 million. The deal, financed through a five-year syndicated loan from ICBC, Banco Galicia, and Banco Santander, aims to strengthen Telecentro’s fiber optic presence and corporate business segment by integrating iPlan’s advanced underground network.

In Spain, Vodafone Intelligent Solutions (VOIS), a technology services subsidiary of Vodafone Group, has announced its intention to initiate a collective dismissal procedure. The move could affect up to 20% of its Spanish workforce, totaling roughly 180 employees. The labor union UGT has expressed opposition to the plan, describing it as part of a continuous destruction of jobs within the sector.

Additionally, Telefónica has finalized the sale of its historic headquarters located at Gran Vía 28 in Madrid. The building was sold to businessman Tomás Olivo through his company, General de Galerías Comerciales, for an amount exceeding 200 million euros. The landmark property, which served as a major Movistar retail hub, represents one of the largest real estate transactions in the capital this year.
