Telecom and AI networking sectors see infrastructure and technology shifts
In the telecommunications sector, Claro has finalized its acquisition of a 72.83 percent controlling stake in the Brazilian fiber broadband operator Desktop. The transaction, valued at approximately R$1.747 billion, strengthens Claro’s fixed-network presence in Brazil through Desktop’s regional FTTH infrastructure. Additionally, FirstLight is expanding its fiber network in western Pennsylvania by constructing 31 miles of new connections to support hyperscale and cloud operators.
In the AI networking space, Arista Networks is positioning Ethernet as a primary scale-up networking fabric to compete with Nvidia’s proprietary NVLink technology. Arista has introduced new Ethernet reference architectures and established integration partnerships with companies including AMD, Arm, Broadcom, Meta, Microsoft, and Qualcomm. These efforts are supported by initiatives like the Ethernet for Scale-Up Networking (ESUN) and the Ultra Ethernet Consortium (UEC), which aim to provide high-bandwidth, low-latency connectivity for accelerated AI infrastructure.
