Telecom Egypt and Power Sub Link to build Sharm El Sheikh–Taba subsea cable

Telecom Egypt and the Greek company Power Sub Link (PSL) have signed an agreement to construct a new 200-kilometer subsea fiber optic cable connecting Sharm El Sheikh to Taba. The project is designed to extend Telecom Egypt’s Red Sea Subsea Festoon Cable System, creating a continuous connectivity route through Suez, Zafarana, Ras Ghareb, Sharm El Sheikh, and Taba.

The new infrastructure will have a design capacity of approximately five petabits per second. By linking the Red Sea to the Mediterranean via Egypt’s Internet Corridor (ICE), the cable aims to strengthen Egypt’s position as a global digital gateway and provide more resilient, high-capacity data transit routes between Asia, Africa, and Europe.

Power Sub Link will manage the full implementation of the project on a ‘turnkey’ basis, covering system design, marine surveys, routing studies, installation, protection, and testing. The cable is expected to be ready for commercial service in the fourth quarter of 2027.
