Telecommunications developments reported in Nicaragua and Cuba

In Nicaragua, the Nicaraguan Institute of Telecommunications and Posts (TELCOR) has confirmed that a third mobile service provider is interested in entering the national market. Director General Nahima Díaz stated that the agency is currently in discussions with the company to evaluate technical, administrative, and commercial requirements. The identity and origin of the company have not yet been disclosed. Currently, the Nicaraguan mobile market is dominated by Claro and Tigo.

In Cuba, Etecsa has begun installing solar panels at its offices in Fomento, Sancti Spíritus, to stabilize telecommunications services. The initiative aims to maintain fixed-line, mobile data, and cellular coverage despite electrical system limitations. Local officials noted that the arrival of the equipment had been delayed by economic restrictions and shipping constraints. The installation process is expected to be completed within 10 to 15 days, which will also support essential services like banking operations.
