Telecommunications firms in Latin America invest in AI and digital infrastructure

Telecommunications companies in Latin America are significantly increasing investments in artificial intelligence and advanced digital infrastructure. In Colombia, Claro has invested approximately $123 million over the last five years to strengthen its Triana and Megacenter data centers in Bogotá and Medellín. Of this total, $25.2 million has been allocated specifically for 2026 to enhance digital capabilities, including energy capacity, data analysis, and cybersecurity.

In Argentina, providers such as Personal Argentina, Telecom, and IPLAN are also pivoting toward AI and edge computing. Personal Argentina is increasing its computing capacity fivefold to integrate AI algorithms into its networks, while IPLAN is focusing on autonomous networks and data management. This regional shift aligns with industry projections from IDC, which estimates that Latin American telecommunications firms will invest $617 million in artificial intelligence this year, with an expected annual growth rate of 37% through 2029.
