Telecommunications market trends in Peru and Mexico
In Peru, the mobile market reached 39.64 million active lines at the close of the second quarter of 2026, according to Osiptel. Claro leads the market with a 33.39% share, followed by Bitel (24.68%), Entel (22.72%), and Movistar (18.95%). Regional data shows that Lima and Callao account for 37.86% of mobile lines, while other regions hold 62.14%. There has been a notable increase in postpaid and control lines, which rose to 20.96 million, an 11% increase compared to the second quarter of 2025.
In Mexico, the Regulatory Commission of Telecommunications (CRT) reports that 97 million mobile lines have been linked to user identities, representing 81.4% of the 120 million lines estimated to be in active use. This mandatory linking process, which requires associating phone numbers with names and CURP identifiers, aims to assist in investigations regarding crimes such as extortion. Authorities expect approximately 120 million lines to be linked by the December 31 deadline.
