Telecommunications providers expand connectivity in Argentina and Ecuador

Telecommunications providers in Argentina and Ecuador are expanding connectivity through different technological means. In Argentina, TelCo Sapem president Manuel Valdés reported that the state company has installed between 1,800 and 1,900 kilometers of fiber optic network. The company recently completed a key segment between Sauce and Curuzú Cuatiá, which allows for the closure of security rings in the provincial network. Valdés expects to reach 2,050 kilometers of active cabling by the end of the year, covering over 90 percent of the provincial population.

In Ecuador, the Corporación Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (CNT) has launched SatPower, a satellite mobile internet service utilizing SpaceX’s Starlink network. General Manager Ronald Spina announced that the service provides initial coverage for over 82 percent of the country, targeting rural roads, mountains, jungles, and maritime routes. This initiative aims to bridge connectivity gaps in remote areas where traditional cell towers are not economically viable, with plans to eventually reach 100 percent coverage.
