Telefónica and NOS partner for European defense connectivity

Telefónica and the Portuguese telecommunications group NOS have signed an agreement to develop advanced connectivity solutions, secure communications, and digital services for the European defense and security sectors.

The partnership follows a year of collaboration and was formalized during the REPMUS 26 maritime exercises in Portugal. This international event focuses on robotic experimentation and prototyping with maritime unmanned systems. During the exercises, the two operators demonstrated the integration of their 5G capabilities, showing how combined mobile infrastructures can support various operational scenarios.

The cooperation covers advanced 5G networks, edge computing, artificial intelligence, and new connectivity architectures. The companies intend to study how these technologies integrate with command and control systems and autonomous platforms. The initiative aims to support technological sovereignty within the European Union and NATO, utilizing operational environments provided by the Spanish and Portuguese Navies.
