Telefónica launches Spain’s first intelligent rural video surveillance network

Telefónica has launched Spain’s first intelligent rural video surveillance network designed to enhance security on provincial road networks and at municipal access points. The technology utilizes a centralized platform connecting various surveillance points equipped with dual cameras: a spherical dome for continuous monitoring and a high-definition camera featuring Optical Character Recognition (OCR) for license plate reading.

The system operates via 4G and 5G connectivity, with data processed and stored in Telefónica’s cloud at the TecnoAlcalá data center. The Guardia Civil will have direct access to both the live camera feeds and the stored image platform, providing an agile tool to investigate vehicle movements related to potential crimes in rural areas.

The Diputació de Guadalajara has become the first provincial authority to adopt this solution. The deployment is expected to take place over the next two years as part of its Provincial Video Surveillance and Security Plan. The service is also designed to be available to other local councils, entities, and consortia through Telefónica’s contracting center.
