Telefônica Vivo advocates for spectrum refarming and 5G Advanced

Telefônica Vivo has proposed that the reuse of frequencies from legacy technologies, a process known as refarming, combined with the evolution toward 5G Advanced, can meet mobile capacity demands through 2030. In a submission to Anatel, the operator argued that the auction for the 6 GHz band should be postponed until after this period.

Vivo representative Rafael Andrade de Oliveira stated that implementing 5G Advanced does not strictly require new spectrum bands, as existing spectrum can be repurposed by rearranging frequencies currently used by sunsetting technologies. The company maintains support for allocating the upper part of the 6 GHz band to mobile services but emphasizes that any auction schedule must account for equipment availability, current investment commitments, and the need for additional capacity.

Separately, CPQD and ABIMAQ held discussions regarding connectivity in Industry 4.0. Experts highlighted how 5G enables equipment virtualization and how the transition toward 6G and AIoT (the combination of AI and the Internet of Things) will drive digital transformation. Current applications include 5G-connected cameras for quality inspection and the use of digital twins for industrial simulations.
