Telefónica's Movistar+ pays accessibility fine and expands O2 discounts

Telefónica's Movistar+ has paid a 209,250 euro fine following a resolution by the CNMC regarding accessibility failures on its M+ LaLiga TV channel. The regulator found that over an 18-month period, the channel failed to provide audio descriptions, sign language interpretation, or consistent subtitling. Movistar+ accepted responsibility and paid the fine in advance, which reduced the original penalty amount of 348,750 euros. The company noted that implementing accessibility features for live sports has required the development of new tools.

In a separate commercial move, Telefónica is expanding access to Movistar+ for O2 customers. The company is now offering a 40% discount on its most complete plan, allowing eligible O2 fiber and mobile customers to subscribe to the Cine, Series, and Deporte plan for 6 euros per month, down from the standard 9.99 euros.
