Teleférico Bicentenario receives international safety certification

The Teleférico Bicentenario in Santiago has achieved international safety and operation certification from the German technical inspection company TÜV SÜD. This milestone follows several weeks of field testing, including emergency braking trials, electromechanical system reviews, and load condition simulations.

Supported by the technology partner Doppelmayr, the 3.4-kilometer cable car system will connect the communes of Providencia and Huechuraba. The project aims to reduce travel times to approximately 13 minutes, offering an alternative to road congestion. The system will feature 121 cabins, each with a capacity for 10 passengers, and is expected to transport up to 3,000 passengers per hour in each direction with a cabin frequency of roughly every 12 seconds.

Each cabin will be equipped with Wi-Fi, video surveillance, and universal accessibility. The system is designed to run entirely on electric power. Full operation is anticipated for the first quarter of 2027, following the completion of administrative and enabling processes.
