Teleférico do Alemão receives new steel cables for system rehabilitation

The Teleférico do Alemão, which has been inactive since 2016, has received 78 tons of new steel cables as part of a major rehabilitation project. The cables, spanning a total of 7.2 kilometers for round trips, were purchased from the French company POMA as part of a R$ 105 million investment in electromechanical components by the State Government.

The installation process is expected to take two months and will employ approximately 150 workers. According to the official schedule, no-load testing is set to begin in November, with the final stage—including calibration and load testing—projected for completion by June 2027. The new cables are estimated to have a service life of ten years, doubling the lifespan of the previous ones.

In addition to the cable installation, MPE Engenharia e Serviços is modernizing 152 gondolas and has completed the renovation of six stations, which now include elevators, escalators, turnstiles, and video monitoring systems. Once reactivated, the transport system is expected to benefit approximately 100,000 residents of the Complexo do Alemão.
