Telegram begins rollout of native Gram Wallet to users

Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has announced the rollout of the Gram Wallet, a native, self-custodial wallet integrated directly into the Telegram messaging platform. The rollout has begun with a small group of users and is expected to expand to Telegram’s more than one billion users over the coming weeks.

Built on the MyTonWallet engine, the wallet allows users to maintain full control of their assets via 24-word seed phrases and private keys. The service supports transfers, payments, and purchases within the Telegram ecosystem, including Telegram Collectibles such as digital gifts and usernames. The wallet also aims to facilitate instant, zero-fee transactions.

Technically, the wallet’s smart contract has been approved by validators, a design choice intended to prevent the need for manual asset migrations during future software upgrades. The launch follows the rebranding of the TON blockchain’s native token from Toncoin to Gram, a name originally proposed by Telegram in 2019.
