Telekom and Vodafone expand Germany's mobile network capacity

Deutsche Telekom reported that in June it expanded its mobile network at 839 locations, commissioning 71 new sites and increasing capacity at 768 existing ones. The upgrades bring 5G coverage to roughly 99 % of German households and near‑complete 4G coverage. In addition to the permanent rollout, the company will deploy about 200 temporary stations for high‑traffic events, including 15 mast stations at Parookaville, eight at the Wacken Open Air festival, and seven at Nature One.

Vodafone is modernising a mobile‑phone tower in the city centre of Kaiserslautern. The work, scheduled from 27 July to 14 August (2026), involves installing additional broadband antennas to create a new mobile data highway. Service at the site will be temporarily unavailable, with traffic rerouted to nearby stations; emergency calls on 112 are unaffected.
