Telemundo executive José Alberto Suárez dies in Kenya helicopter crash

José Alberto Suárez, the 55-year-old president and general manager of three Telemundo stations in Florida, died following a helicopter crash in northern Kenya. The accident occurred near Mount Ololokwe in Samburu County, approximately 350 kilometers north of Nairobi.

Reports indicate that seven people lost their lives in the crash, including the pilot, six tourists, and Michele Sensi-Contugi, the director of Ecuador's National Intelligence Center, along with her wife, Stephany Hollihan. Suárez had led Telemundo 31 Orlando, Telemundo 49 Tampa, and the Fort Myers-Naples station since 2024, following an 18-year career with the network.

Kenyan authorities, including the Red Cross and drone teams, responded to the accident in the rugged terrain. The Kenya Aircraft Accident Investigation Department is currently investigating the cause of the crash, which remains undetermined.
