Telenor network outage disrupts Norway emergency services and rail traffic

A major technical failure in Telenor's mobile network caused widespread disruption across Norway on Thursday, October 8. The outage, which began around 15:15, severely impacted voice calls, SMS, and mobile data services for both Telenor customers and users of other operators like Telia and Ice.

The disruption had critical consequences for public safety and infrastructure. Emergency services, including the 112, 110, and 113 numbers, faced significant difficulties, forcing police to deploy extra patrols to assist citizens. Additionally, the communication failure led to a nationwide standstill of train traffic as operators could not guarantee safe coordination.

Telenor reported that services began returning to normal levels around 17:25, though the company continued to investigate the root cause. There are currently no indications of a cyberattack or malicious intent. The Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom) has announced an official inspection of Telenor to investigate the incident and prevent future occurrences.
