Telethon expands broadcast reach for 59th annual charity event

The annual 26-hour Telethon charity event in Perth is expanding its reach, broadcasting its opening ceremony live across Australia on Channel 7 for the first time in its 59-year history. The event, which has raised over $778 million in total, aims to build on last year’s record-breaking $90 million haul to support children and families in need.

Performers arriving for the marathon include Jessica Mauboy, The Wiggles (Tsehay Hawkins and Lucia Field), The Ten Tenors, and Mark Vincent. The broadcast features various segments, including lip-sync battles with Channel Seven personalities, musical performances at RAC Arena, and the traditional late-night Slumber Party. The event concludes with a car giveaway and has long been a staple of the Western Australian television calendar.
