Televisa and Fintech to acquire AT&T Mexico for $2 billion

Grupo Televisa and Fintech Holdings have agreed to acquire AT&T Mexico's wireless business for $2 billion in cash. The transaction, structured as a 50-50 joint venture, is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027, pending regulatory approval from the Comisión Federal de Competencia Económica (COFECE) and the Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFT).

AT&T Mexico, currently the second-largest mobile operator in the country, reported approximately 24.7 million mobile subscribers as of December 31, 2025. The unit also reported consolidated revenues of 85.4 billion pesos and an operating profit of 1.4 billion pesos for the same period.

For AT&T, the sale allows the company to refocus its capital and investment on its domestic United States market, specifically targeting fiber optic infrastructure and 5G deployment to support future artificial intelligence needs. The acquisition will significantly expand Televisa's presence in the telecommunications sector, potentially serving over 25 million mobile users and 5.8 million fixed-service subscribers.
